MICHIGAN, May 1, 2025 ~ After wokring more closely with President Donald Trump and giving him a hug at his most recent rally, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is being criticiszed by her fellow Democrats.
Whitmer appeared at Trump’s Michigan rally on Tuesday after working with him to secure the F-15EX fighter jet for Selfridge National Guard Airbase in Macomb County, signalling a stronger working relationship with the leader of the opposing party. Mehdi Hasan, prominent liberal pundit and editor-in-chif and Zeteo, posted on X “Far right extremists tried to kidnap Whitmer. Trump himself later suggested it was a fake plot and mocked it. He called her ‘that woman in Michigan’ and led a crowd that chanted ‘lock her up.’ Today Whitmer hugged him on the tarmac. This is why Dems lose.“

(CONTINUED) However, some have applauded the bipartisanship. “I’m not a huge fan usually, but I’ll give (Whitmer) huge credit for ignoring these folks in her own party who say, ‘Oh, no, you can’t talk to the president.’ We hate the president, even if it means saving an air base,“ Detroit News Editorial Page Editor Nolan Finley told WJR. “That’s where we are, where partisanship controls everything. Partisanship is far more important than principle, and far more important than the people.“
