WASHINGTON D.C., May 6, 2025 ~ The state of California‘s goal to phase out gas-powered cars saw a major setback last week when the U.S. House voted to disallow that state to enforce an electric vehicle mandate.

The plan would have required all new-vehicle sales to be electric by 2035, aiming to target pollution and carbon emissions. However, the GOP under the Trump administration has been adverse to former President Joe Biden‘s EV policies, with former Congressman and U.S. Senate candidate from Michigan Mike Rogers telling WJR, “Normally when you have a product like an automobile that is built in Michigan that can be sold in all 50 states and overseas, you want a federal consistency. So, the interstate commerce clause, what the Biden administration did was give a waiver to California, saying, ‘You can set your own standards for automobiles.’ Well, it’s about 30%, roughly, maybe a little less, of the automobile market in America. They just went crazy.
