DETROIT, June 3, 2025 — After anchoring the Detroit Lions’ offensive line for seven seasons, Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow has officially announced his retirement from the NFL, citing ongoing health concerns and a desire to prioritize his family’s future.

“These past couple of months have been very trying as I’ve come to the realization that my football journey is ending and I’m officially retiring from the NFL,” Ragnow shared in an emotional Instagram post.

I’ve tried to convince myself that I’m feeling good, but I’m not, and it’s time to prioritize my health and my family’s future. I have given this team everything I have, and I thought I had more to give, but the reality is, I simply don’t. I have to listen to my body, and this has been one of the hardest decisions of my life.

The Lions organization has been absolutely incredible throughout this process, and I can’t emphasize enough how grateful I am for this team and all the fans. It was an absolute honor going to battle for you all.”

(CONTINUED) Drafted 20th overall in 2018, Ragnow quickly became a cornerstone of Detroit’s offensive line. Over the course of his career, he played more than 5,500 snaps and allowed just six sacks—a testament to his consistency, toughness, and elite technique. Despite battling through multiple injuries, he earned four Pro Bowl selections and was named Second-Team All-Pro three times, solidifying his place among the NFL’s top centers.

With Ragnow stepping away, the Lions now face the challenge of filling a massive void in the heart of their offensive line. Early signs point to rookie Tate Ratledge, a second-round pick, who has been taking first-team reps at center during offseason workouts.
