MICHIGAN, June 4, 2025 ~ Every 16 years, Michigan votes on a rewrite of the state constitution, it being on the ballot again in 2026. Some lawmakers in Lansing are saying that there should be a constitutional convention to rewrite Michigan’s constitution.
“As we look at the last time, it was 60 years ago, there have been a lot of amendments that have been added. I think it’s gotten clunkier,” State Sen. Aric Nesbitt told WJR. “Some of the stuff that they thought was a good idea in the ’60s isn’t really operating like it should be. Look at our education system. Nobody can say that it’s really rewarding Michigan and making sure the students are learning at grade level. It should be a clear and concise framework that outlines the rights of citizens, the core principles of governing.“
