DETROIT, June 6 2025, ~ The Detroit Tigers delivered a strong statement over the weekend, taking two out of three games against the Chicago Cubs in a series that felt like a World Series preview. With both teams leading their divisions, Comerica Park was packed with over 120,000 fans over the three-day period, creating an atmosphere buzzing with October-like intensity.

Detroit set the tone on Friday night, claiming a 3-1 victory behind Tarik Skubal’s dominant pitching performance and timely hitting from both first baseman Spencer Torkelson and outfielder Jahmai Jones. Skubal pitched seven innings, allowing eight hits, one run, and striking out six, bringing his total to 52 strikeouts over his last five games. Torkelson delivered the game-winning home run in the sixth inning, while Jones, in his first at-bat as a big leaguer, launched a homer to seal the victory in game one.

Chicago launched five home runs, including two from outfielder Seiya Suzuki, while Jameson Taillon pitched seven strong innings, allowing just one run. Detroit managed a lone run in the fifth, but the Cubs’ power surge proved too much to overcome.

The Tigers shut out the Cubs 4-0 in game three, securing the series win in front of a sellout crowd.
