The Crookston High School Clay Target team had 20 students participate in the state qualifying shoot in Alexandria on Thursday, June 12. Crookston finished in 31st place in Class AAAA with a team total of 372. Jacob Biermaier was the top Pirate male shooter with an 82. Allison Abeld and Jayde Uttermark were the top females with 72s. Crookston did not make the top 40 teams overall (in all classes) and won’t advance to the Minnesota State High School Championships. Area teams making the MSHSL Championships are Kittson County Central (476), Badger/Greenbush-Middle River (475), Stephen-Argyle (471), Thief River Falls (470), Lake of the Woods (469), and Ada-Borup-West (468).

Crookston’s Junior Varsity team shot a 373, which was good for 21st place in Class AAAA. Michael Miller was the top Pirate male J.V. score with an 81 and Addisyn Schiller was the top Pirate female J.V. score with a 67.

“The day started off being cool and cloudy, but turned into a rainy day with constant rain from about noon on. I think the constant rain threw some students off. We also had a few gun jams due to everything getting wet and gummy, which threw students off their rhythm. They still stayed safe and had fun,” said Coach Randy Prudhomme. “We also had Allison Abeld finish fourth in the novice female division, being only two birds away from third and four birds away from first.”
