MINNESOTA, June 16, 2025 ~ Former speakers of the House John Boehner and Kevin McCarthy condemn political violence following the assassinations of Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband on Saturday.

Vance Boelter, a private security contractor for business operations oversees who is suspected of killing the Hortmans and injuring State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, was arrested Sunday on charges of first-degree murder. McCarthy told WJR, “We’ve got to start respecting other people’s opinion (that’s) different than yours. It doesn’t mean anything’s wrong with that person; that’s what the First Amendment allows, to have that free debate, but we should be respectful. Now, we’ve taken it to a whole different level, that rhetoric builds into a lot of this.

(CONTINUED) “Every time you turn around, whether it’s (on) your phone, iPad, TV, (or) radio, something is being blared at you,” Boehner told WJR. “Some of it’s true, some of it isn’t, and some of it’s just nonsense. People have overloaded each other with information, and social media is probably the big driver these days, but there’s no place in American society for political violence.
