Michigan Bill Aims to Give Makcinac Island Ferry Control Amid Ballooning Costs

MACKINAC ISLAND, June 18, 2025 ~ The state of Michigan is looking to give Mackinac Island more control over ferry services to and from the island due to pricing concerns.

State Sen. John Damoose (R-Harbor Springs) introduced a bill recently to control its ferry services, currently privately owned by Florida investors. Currently, round trips with the ferries cost $51, according to Crain’s Detroit Business Managing Editor Mike Lee.
