DETROIT, June 23, 2025 ~ Detroit is in the midst of its first heat wave of the summer. With temperatures expected to reach the upper 90s to begin the week, the city has extended operating hours at multiple recreational centers to give residents a chance to cool down.
Until Tuesday, June 24, the Heilmann Recreation Center, the Northwest Activities Center, and the Patton Recreation Center will open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

(CONTINUED) All of the other centers throughout the city will continue operating at normal hours.
During these heat waves, the National Weather Service offers some tips on staying safe. Taking time to hydrate, finding air conditioning, and staying out of the sun are the most important actions to take in avoiding heat related illnesses.
