DETROIT, June 23, 2025 ~ Joe Hooks, a native of Southfield and Commerce Township, won the John Shippen Men’s Invitational on Sunday, June 22 at the Detroit Golf Club. Hooks shot 10-under-par to secure a spot in the upcoming Rocket Classic starting Thursday at the DGC.
Including a shot at making a name at the Rocket Classic, Hooks was awarded a $20,000 purse from the tournament that supports diversity in the golf industry.

(CONTINUED) Hooks previously competed in the John Shippen tournament four times, finishing as high as fifth. On Sunday, he birdied three times on the back nine to take home his first win at the Invitational.
The 32-year-old graduated from the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy along with Wayne State University, and has been playing at DGC for the majority of his career. The course lies just two miles from UofD.
